Integrating ORIEL Tools

Prototype of ORIEL Workbench available at: http://edam.prov.ingenta.com:8083/

The ORIEL Workbench is a demonstration prototype of an integrated user interface whose purpose is to enable a researcher to easily apply any of the ORIEL tools to a research problem.

The Workbench makes use of protocol elements rather than of specific tools. The transport protocol is based on SOAP whose marshalling mechanisms are used without change, thereby facilitating the integration of tools developed both in- and outside ORIEL (especially clients).

For example, the use of WSDL definitions means that public interfaces to ORIEL services are documented in a domain-independent manner. ORIEL integration is oriented to the creation of user-friendly portal sites, like E-BioSci, and this is intended to facilitate the creation of a
managed set of “matched tools,” while still being an easy target for the integration of additional tools.
