Full text indexing with IMGT-ONTOLOGY vocabulary

The IMGT information system® has defined a controlled vocabulary relevant to IMGT-ONTOLOGY. IMGT-ONTOLOGY is the first ontology which allows the management of immunogenetics information for all vertebrate species.

This controlled vocabulary cannot be used directly to index literature texts, because, in general, authors had used and continue to use their own vocabulary. Within the ORIEL project, a prototype of a tool to establish a relation between IMGT-ONTOLOGY vocabulary and general usage vocabulary, has been developed. This tool includes :

  • IMGT-ML : a set of XML schemas which describes IMGT-ONTOLOGY concepts and IMGT information system® data.
  • SEFID (Search Engine Prototype for Immunology Domains) : a WEB service to get a list of syntagmas (nouns or nominal expressions) from a query exprimed in IMGT-ML.
